Oh no, it’s the attack of the MP3. No the world is not actually being attacked by MP3’s just one. It has been reported (see Yahoo article) that 500,000 people have been infected with a spyware-injected Trojan horse thanks to this rogue MP3 file that really isn’t an MP3 file.
So what you need to watch out for is a Music track from UK group Girls Aloud. What actually happens is this file says you need a special codec to play it. People have then installed the codec and bang you are infected with heaps of pop-ups and so forth. Ok I hear you, who would be stupid enough to fool for this, but hey 500,000 people have. Just so you know the file is mainly found in peer-to-peer networks.
So now you know!
