Will Google Buy Skype?

There have been some rumours floating around that Google may be looking at buying Skype from eBay. I suspect that there is some truth to this. eBay have owned Skype for a few years now but quite honestly have failed to do anything useful with it or turn it into a profitable business for them. I’m not sure what eBay were thinking in the first place when they purchase it. It really is getting away from their core business, which is auctions.

Now I think Google and Skype together would be a powerful partnership and one that would really start to see Skype develop much further than it has. I’m sure Google would embed Skype functionality into most of there products. Maybe they will “Skype Me” buttons next to search results? The VOIP market is one that Google really has not tapped into in any big way and buying Skype would suddenly give them a huge foothold in that market.

I can see this purchase happening, It makes sense. eBay need to get back to there core business and Google is a much better fit with Skype.
